The 2014 wedding season will bring many destination brides & grooms to the Island. If you have made the decision to utilize the professional services of those in the wedding industry, please be aware of the following.
The wedding industry doesn’t have a standard set for wedding planners. I have personally networked with people/business owners that call themselves Wedding Planners because they have organized a party or stepped-in on the Day-Of to take responsibility for the event. The Association of Bridal Consultants in which I am a member does require their members to pass a thorough course that consists of every aspect of a wedding/event with documentation of prior events that the wedding planner organized/planned/coordinated/implemented.
Wedding Planner – read the contract to know what your wedding planner will do/perform on your wedding day. Not all wedding planners are created equal. Ask for references and get everything in writing.
Professional Bridal Consultant – Earned the designation of a PBC due to the completion of the ABC wedding standards and documentation of at least 30 events.
Caterer – Food and presentation is what they do best
Florist – Flowers are their specialty & the focus of their training
Photographer – Moments in time are captured with the correct lighting & staging
Each of the professionals listed above will add another dimension of professionalism and will take responsibility to ensure your event is less stressful for you, your family and guests. But, contracting with a caterer who also wants to be your wedding planner is not advised. The caterer’s role is to ensure that the menu is presented hot/cold, cooked properly with industry standards, and to clean up after the presentation. Select a professional that has the correct tools to make your wedding day sophisticated, creative and memorable.
